Reviews, referrals and come-backs
for electricians.

Most of your work is one-and-done, so this is about the two things that compound: the review, and the referral to the neighbour.

What your customer gets

Three asks, in your name, the way an electrician would say it.

The wording is set for electrical when you sign up. Change any line by replying to your welcome email; nobody has to.

Day 1 · Day 4

For a review

Hi Jennifer, it's Mike from ClearLine. Just checking in - is everything working the way it should? If anything's off, tell me and I'll make it right.
Thank you for having us out, Jennifer. If you've got a minute, an honest review would mean a lot - your word in the community helps people trust us, because you did. clearline.review/j

Check in first, so a problem reaches you before it reaches Google. Then one honest ask, one nudge on day eight, and never again for that job. When the review lands, you get it by text with a reply drafted in your voice.

Day 21

For a referral

Jennifer, if you know anyone looking for an electrician, I'd be grateful for the introduction. Forward this and have them text me here - we'd look after them the same way we looked after you.

The referred person texts you. We never text a stranger. You get a text the moment someone new says "Jennifer sent me."

Never

No come-back

Clocks fall back this weekend, Jennifer. Enjoy the extra hour. - Mike

One-time work gets no come-back ask - that would be silly. Instead: clocks, holidays, and the referral. The people who'd recommend you stay warm for eighteen months.

Then the reply

When the review lands, we answer it.

Every new Google review reaches you by text the day it appears, with a reply written in your voice. Reply YES to approve it, or send your own words. One tap and it's up under your name. A one-star gets a "please call me" draft, and you hear about it before anyone else does.

You pick at setup: reply for me, or send me the draft and post it yourself. Either way, none of your reviews sits there unanswered. Included in the $2.

To Mike, from his Ask Every Customer number
New Google review for ClearLine: ★★★★★ from Sandra - "Furnace tune-up done in under an hour, fair price, and they left the place cleaner than they found it."

Suggested reply:
Thanks, Sandra. Glad the furnace tune-up went the way it should. Call any time. Mike

The math for an electrician

Twenty new customers a month is $40.

Say your average job is about $400. A whole year of this - every review ask, every referral ask - costs $480. That's one extra job a year to break even. We won't tell you what you'll make; nobody honest can. That's what it takes to break even, and it isn't much.

A customer counts once a year, so the regulars you already have never cost you twice. First five free, card on file, nothing charged until your sixth.

The questions electricians ask

Plain answers.

Will customers get annoyed?

Nine texts in the first year — and two of them are about your clocks. One email. Every one from a real name. If they reply, review, or text STOP, it stops right there. And the whole thing winds down and ends on its own at eighteen months.

Do I need software?

No. Three ways in — pick whichever is true today. Text us the customer's name and number from the truck; seven seconds. Forward your invoices to your own AskEveryCustomer address. Or connect Jobber, Housecall Pro or Square once, and a finished job starts it.

What counts as a customer?

One person, once a year. A customer is counted the first time we text them, and not again for twelve months no matter how many times they come back — a barber's regular is one customer, not twelve. Landlines and bad numbers are never counted: if the first text doesn't go, there's no charge.

When do you charge my card?

Card on file to start. Nothing is charged until your sixth customer. From then it's $2 a customer, added up and billed once a month, after the month. A month with no new customers is a month with no bill.
